Oh yeah, guys. Pray for Colleen. I saw her at the studio today, and she looked horrible. Still mad at me maybe?

Day 41: Africa?

Mood Meter: Missing Something

Okay, you guys, you kept me up waaaay past my bedtime tonight. Totally worth it! It was so great talking to all of you, and seeing you! VIVA VIDEO CHAT!

In case you weren’t there, Pastor Ryan and Stephanie had all the people on the Uganda team over at their house this afternoon for a Friday hang out kind of deal. Anyway, they all called me up. It was awesome seeing Maddie, Stephanie, and Sabine again. They were all excited because their Africa trip leaves a week from Sunday, the night of my Top of the Pops performance.

They’re going to be working at the Prince of Peace School and Orphanage outside of Kampala, the capital. Our church supports a missionary there, Eleanor Walsh, and they’re going to help her out. There’s been a sort of civil war going on in the northern part of the country. This evil group has been taking small kids and making them fight in the army, and Eleanor has been ministering to a lot of the kids affected by that.

I know all about it because I was supposed to be going with them. Before I made it on Pop Star Challenge, Eleanor had come to our church to speak, and I was really moved. Here I was enjoying my Hollywood high life while thousands of kids were suffering over there. When Pastor Ryan announced that he was planning a trip with the high school group during our two-week fall break, I was the first one to sign up, and the rest is history. Well, almost history. When the show came up, I had to drop the whole missionary Izzy idea.

“Wish you were coming with us,” they were all yelling as the call wrapped up.

ME TOO! I felt like screaming. Things have been getting kind of difficult in the studio, and heading off to Africa seems so . . . less stressful. But I guess that’s not the right motive to go on a ministry trip anyway.

Oh well, maybe I’ll be able to change the world with my music someday, if Melodia ever actually lets me sing one of my own songs.

My Heart

What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? (James 2:14)

I’m so proud of my friends. Do you know why? Because they’re doing what the Bible says instead of just talking about it. Even though a few of them are really scared about leaving home and heading for a totally different culture, they’re going out of their comfort zones to share God’s love in Africa. They’re doing what they signed up to do as Christians.

I know we’re not saved by what we do. We’re saved by faith in Jesus (my mom used to remind me of that all the time). But if we really do believe what Jesus said, then we’re going to live that out in our lives.
